# Refresh and freshness

Understand the difference between Refresh, Analyze, source ingestion, analyst review updates, and publishing a new frozen ML snapshot.

Matterhorn contains several clocks: the reporting period, public release date, retrieval date, calculation date, review date, and ML snapshot date. “Updated today” is meaningful only when you know which clock it describes.

## Choose the right action

| Action | What it does | What it does not imply |
| -------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Refresh** | Reloads stored dashboard data | A new filing has been fetched or a model retrained |
| **Analyze** | Queues the company pipeline to refresh evidence and recompute standard research | Every provider metric is available, or the ML bundle changes |
| **Run review** in Analysis | Starts or reuses saved analyst review work over the available dossier | Underlying evidence is corrected or missing filings are filled |

## Research a ticker

Select **Analyze**, enter one ticker, and select **Analyze** in the dialog. Follow the displayed progress. Work uses the existing queue, so it may wait behind other tasks. Closing the dialog does not mean the queued work was cancelled.

After completion, use **Refresh** and inspect the relevant source period and calculation. A successful job can still have nothing new to add. If a data source has no applicable value, repeated clicks do not create one.

## Check actual stored output

The **Evidence rows** total at the top of the workspace has its own **as of** date. That date belongs to the saved count; it does not mean every company's filings, prices or scores were updated then.

Open the company's **Evidence** and **Filings** tabs and check the reporting period and source date. Check the review timestamp in **Analysis** separately. Automatic commentary refresh covers the current top ten when an ingestion cycle adds relevant new evidence. Reviews you request for other companies remain saved; follow the update prompt when newer relevant evidence is available. With ML enabled, use the circled **?** beside the Beta chip or the company score breakdown to read the ML data date.

New filings can appear in company research before a validated ML snapshot incorporates them. If dates remain unexpectedly old after research completes, report the ticker, source period, scoring mode, and displayed date through your usual support channel.

## Where the data comes from

SEC filings and XBRL provide the core financial record. Configured APIs supply price history, supported transcripts and institutional data where available. Optional sources do not replace the evidence contract.

The language model writes commentary over retrieved evidence. It does not supply financial facts or choose scores.

> **Pro Tip — Ask for the period, not just the timestamp.** A file retrieved today can still describe last year's business. A fresh analyst paragraph can still be based on that older file.
