# Compare companies

Select up to six Matterhorn companies, compare standard or ML opportunity charts, and investigate the differences in fundamentals and evidence.

Comparison is most useful when both companies are plausible choices for the same research thesis. It turns “this looks strong” into “this is stronger in these ways, weaker in those ways, and supported by this evidence.”

## Open a comparison

1. Choose **Companies**.
2. Click the small selection box at the left of each company row. Search one ticker at a time if needed; selections persist as you change filters.
3. Select **Compare** beside the selection count above the Companies table. The control stays in Companies; it does not appear in the other workspace views.
4. Compare two or three names first. The interface supports up to six.
5. Remove a name in the comparison or clear the selection to start again.

*NVDA, MSFT, and AXON are shown to demonstrate the controls. They are not a matched industry peer group.*

## Keep the basis consistent

With ML off, the overlay shows five standard components. With ML on, it shows eight axes from the same pinned model bundle, plus the available comparison metrics. An uncovered company has gaps instead of a fabricated ML score.

The ordinary financial rows can be newer than the frozen ML snapshot. Confirm dates in each company's Evidence tab before inferring that two ratios describe the same period. Missing data is not a win for the other company.

## What to compare first

| Research question | Pair the measurements |
| ----------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Is growth economically attractive? | Revenue growth with gross-profit growth and cash generation |
| Is demand credible? | Demand trend with source quality, scope, and conversion evidence |
| Can the business finance the opportunity? | Leverage with margins, cash flow, and dilution |
| Has the market already moved? | Strength and price history with valuation and current earnings |
| Is the difference real? | Coverage, periods, industry applicability, and source definitions |

Highlighted “best” values follow the comparison table's directional rules. They are not an all-things-considered judgment about the best investment.

> **Pro Tip — Use two comparisons.** First compare a company with a close economic alternative. Then compare it with a different kind of opportunity competing for your attention. The first tests execution; the second tests opportunity cost.
